We’ve got a busy automotive workshop in Al Quoz and we’re finally getting serious about proper chemical storage after a minor spill incident last month. We currently have four 200-litre drums of different oils and solvents sitting directly on the floor, and the safety inspector told us we need proper secondary containment ASAP. I’ve been looking at different options and found a Leading Spill Pallets supplier in Dubai that offers various sizes from 2-drum to 4-drum capacity with sump capacities ranging from 85 to 240 litres. I’m thinking the 4-drum pallet with a 240-litre sump would be perfect for our needs since it covers all our drums and the sump capacity exceeds 110% of the largest drum’s volume, which is what the regulations require. The pallets are made from UV-stabilised HDPE which should handle the workshop environment, and they’re forklift-accessible which makes moving them around easy. What I’m not sure about is whether we need the covered or open version – the covered ones look more secure but the open ones are cheaper and might be easier to access. Has anyone here used these spill pallets in a busy workshop setting and found the covered ones worth the extra cost? I’d appreciate any insights before I make a purchase because we really need to get this sorted out properly.
