So I finally pulled the trigger and booked my 2017 S3 in for a DSG service after putting it off for way too long, but honestly the whole process of finding a shop that actually knows what they’re doing with these boxes has been doing my head in. I called around to about five different places in Dubai and got quotes ranging from 1,200 dirhams all the way up to 3,500 for what’s essentially the same job, and the cheaper places couldn’t even tell me what fluid they were planning to use or whether they’d be resetting the adaptations afterward, which immediately set off alarm bells in my head because I know these transmissions are so sensitive to the right procedures. I ended up going with a specialist that was recommended by a mate who’s had his A4 done there, and they actually walked me through the whole process – the correct fill temperature, the filter change, the adaptation reset – which gave me way more confidence than the guys who just said “yeah we do DSG services” and left it at that. I’ve also been doing some reading on auditransmissionrepair.ae and found their breakdown of the DQ250 gearbox really helpful for understanding what actually goes on inside these units and why the service is so important. The car’s done about 68,000 kilometers and I’ve been noticing some hesitation on the 1-2 upshift when it’s cold, so I’m hoping this fresh fluid sorts it out and I’m not looking at a mechatronics issue down the line. I’ll report back after the service to let everyone know how it went, but for now I’m just hoping I’ve made the right choice and not wasted my money on a place that cuts corners.
