I have a long drive coming up in a few weeks, so I have started thinking about getting my Infiniti checked properly before I leave. The car has not given me any major trouble lately, but I have owned it long enough to know that small things can turn into annoying problems at the worst possible time. I usually just follow the normal service schedule and deal with anything that comes up, but this time I want to be a little more careful because I will be spending several hours on the road. I am mostly thinking about the things that are easy to ignore during normal city driving, such as brakes, tires, fluids, battery condition, cooling system, and transmission behavior. The car feels fine to me, but I am not a mechanic, so I cannot really tell whether everything is working as it should. I am based around the ICAD area and have been looking around for a workshop that understands Infiniti cars rather than taking the car somewhere that works on every make without much experience with this particular brand. One search brought up the phrase Certified Infiniti service near ICAD, but I would rather hear from owners who have actually taken their cars somewhere before making an appointment. When you take your Infiniti for a pre trip inspection, what do you normally ask the mechanic to check? Do you ask for a full service even if the regular service is not due yet, or is a detailed inspection enough? I am also curious about how much information a good workshop should give you after checking the car. For example, if they find that the brake pads still have plenty of life left, I would rather know that than be told to replace them just because the car is already in the workshop. The same goes for the battery and tires. I have had mechanics in the past recommend things that were probably not urgent, and it made me wonder how other people decide what actually needs to be done immediately. Another thing I would like to understand is whether Infiniti needs any special diagnostic checks that a normal garage might not be able to perform. The car has quite a few electronic systems, and I would feel better knowing that warning codes and other hidden issues have been checked before starting a long trip. I am not really interested in finding the cheapest place either. I would rather pay for a proper inspection and know exactly where the car stands than save a little money and spend the trip worrying about whether something was missed. If anyone around ICAD has experience getting an Infiniti ready for a long journey, how did the inspection go, and what did you wish you had checked before leaving? I would especially like to know whether you usually book in advance and how long you normally leave the car at the workshop for a proper inspection.
