Hi all. Question about storage rather than the move itself. We are downsizing into a smaller place and roughly a quarter of our furniture will not fit, but we are not ready to sell it because our daughter may take it when she moves out next year. So I need somewhere to put a bedroom set and a dining table for around twelve months. Is it better to rent a unit and haul it there myself, or do moving companies do longer term storage at a reasonable price? Nothing in it is fragile beyond the dining table, which has a glass insert.

For twelve months, compare properly, because a self storage unit plus a rented van twice is sometimes cheaper and sometimes not, depending on how much you are storing. What tips it is handling. With a mover you load once and it goes straight into their warehouse. We looked at Los Angeles moving and storage when we downsized and having the same crew take the surplus straight to storage on moving day meant no second trip at all. Ask about climate control for anything wooden, twelve months in a hot unit is not kind to a dining table. And confirm the notice period for retrieval.
